Setting Up the Stream:

Setting up your stream can be an expensive and overwhelming task. Honestly, this is likely why more people don't stream. However, with some patience and determination you will be able to setup a stream that captures all of the excitement you have about the content you are creating.

You will need to consider purchasing the following:

Console vs. PC

One big decision you need to make right away is whether you want to stream on a PC or on a gaming console. These consoles would include Xbox One, Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch-- or literally any gaming console ever created. These are interesting options because gaming consoles do not change much, and when they do it is generally in the way of software updates. For PC, there is the potential for higher levels of power, adaptability, and customization. However, one noted downside is that you sometimes have to replace inner hardware for your PC and that can become an expensive process/experience. Really, what you game on is 100 percent a personal preference. You do need to decide though, and work from there!

Why You Need Two Monitors:

You noticed in the setup section of this page that I suggested the use of two monitors for your stream. The reason for that is simple, one monitor will be the screen that you play your games on. This will look like any screen you have ever played games on in the past. The second monitor will run your streaming software. This is where you will be able to check volume levels, make transitions between stream scenes, interact with your viewers in chat and more. Two monitors is essential for being able to successfully run a stream and interact with your audience. Here is a link for a well-priced gaming monitor. Remember, it will be worth it to purchase two of them!

Other Needed Streaming Tools:

+Stream Mic: The stream mic is important for your stream. It's main function is to make sure that the stream can hear what you are saying. You cannot simply use a gaming headset with a mic, as it's purpose is to capture game audio, and not stream related audio. I know this may seem confusing, but it is quite simple. The mic for your stream captures your voice and produces it to your stream. Here is a link to the mic I use for my own stream.

+Web-Cam: It can be intimidating to put your face out there on your stream. However, most streamers clear this hurdle and it helps to connect them to their audience. Having a cam makes you more relatable for the viewer, and they feel like they get to know you better. Most large streamers go this route, and it is definitely a recommendation of mine for you to do this as well. Here is a link for the webcam that I use in stream.

+Gaming Headset: The gaming headset is critical for you to hear gaming sound, chat with friends while playing, and keep all sound coming out to your viewers. This is a must have prouduct for any streamer. Here is a link for the headset I have. This is very expensive, and really any gaming headset would work. I love my Astro A50's, however, they are not required.

+Stream Deck Controller: This is an add-on that you absolutely do not HAVE to buy. However, for a streamer, it is worth it's weight in gold. When you are streaming, you are going to be switching through scenes. You may nave a be right back, starting soon, ending soon, and live scene. These are all windows that you will be using a lot throughout your stream. You also may post links and media at any point in your stream. This is all made easy by Stream Deck, as it allows you to do this with the touch of a button. Stream Deck also links to social media accounts and will send going live tweets with a button push as well. You can find your Stream Deck here

Stream Software:

The selection of software to run your stream is an important piece to the puzzle. Streamlabs is my recommendation for streaming software. Streamlabs OBS is available for download on the web, and it comes with a lot of helpful features for new streamers. For me, I downloaded a template and put my information into the overlays for your stream. This is easy to customize, connect with other media accounts, and to stream on a regular basis. The software is updated frequently with improvements and it is 100 percent free to use.
